poem: Winter Caracal

  • Apr. 6th, 2008 at 2:07 AM
So I was thinking about whether or not to post a caracal poem in my new livejournal. Then I saw that [info]ericatlarge has them listed as an interest of his??? Now I have to post it. Hint: it's got another animal in it, too ;-)

Winter Caracal

   i'm cold, demure
   discrete approximations of curves,
   furrowed in organic faux-random
   slowly, softly—view through salty
glass crusted with long stretch marks.

                           time pulled like taffy.
unprecedented

no, predictable, typical of anarcho-barbaric yes
this passes for
civilization at times
   often soot-covered or bricked-in-barren
five tidy boxes, open to eyes all (open, closed),
straight
succession of open-top madness
organized tightly around, not schedules or
economy,
grandparents and mothers and fathers, wearing
newd clothing, promises draped on like
   baronial invitations.

             access time randomly
             across decades or centuries
             bilious and/or sparkling

   shrunken differences skewered on pikes,
a small long-eared joy enters, grazes,
   fears—freezes, freezing, comes back
   to itself and my heart.
